Flex has been part of the Open Source community since the release of Flex 3. What's different now is that Adobe has released the roadmap for Flex, relinquishing control of the SDK to the community at large. Adobe plans to be part of that community, rather than being the controlling body. There are still some issues with this approach since Adobe is not opening up the Flash Player to the Open Source community. When trying to build a platform that is dependent on the Flash Player and you don’t know the underlying features, it makes it difficult to extend past the current release.

Recently I had an audio clip that was spread across multiple slides... I was lucky enough to find a useable version of a split word in the audio, but couldn't get Captivate to splice the audio without either an audible stutter in the word, or without a fairly large "pop" at the point of the splice. Read on to see how I solved it!It's pretty common knowledge that you can edit backgrounds in Captivate using Photoshop, right? (Just nod your head up & down if you're not sure, then right click on a background image in your library to check it out...)And if you're lucky enough to have Adobe Soundbooth installed as part of the Adobe eLearning Suite or otherwise, you can do the same thing with audio as well.

Locating overrides

While teaching a FrameMaker 10 class today, I was reminded that the Find/Change feature now includes the option to search for Paragraph Character and Table format overrides. This is a great way to identify inconsistencies in your document’s formatting. The option to search for overrides is new to FrameMaker 10, but for those of you not yet using FrameMaker 10, you can still easily remove formatting inconsistencies in any version of FrameMaker (or at least back to Frame 5.0!)
